Chandeliers of Music. Corby's Orbit / Radio Regent Toronto - Greatest Hits of 2014

You all have a profound and personal tune-list of songs. This year, in the air traffic control center of my affections, admirations and appreciations, these songs have offered me some cultural comfort, bolstered my imagination, strengthened my conviction that music, as thought, matters more than matter, and played continually in my head without benefit of a device. Amongst many others...

I programmed them all on my show, and often more than once. There are a few Top 40 selections here, as proof against the arguers who say that no new music is as good as back in the day. Even EDM has its epiphanies. Thanks to all the makers.

Ramping Up The Spiritual Vitality For The New Year

Try meshing up your mind with two profoundly soul-stirring artists, by tuning in this Friday's show. At 5:30 we'll be joined by Karen Andrew, vocal explorer from Broadway, currently saddling up a thoroughbred band to support her new EP "I Am" at The Rivoli Thursday, January 29 at 8:00pm. Orbital amiga, Ambre McLean is opening.

And, at 6:00, the bracing audible fragrances of radiant violinist Anne Lindsay will be gracing the Orbit as she prepares to bring her awe-inspiring Soloworks LP to The Heliconian Hall in Yorkville on Friday, February 6th, at 8 pm.

Gala Concert For The East End Friends of Acoustic Harvest and Winterfolk XIII in Toronto

First round featured "Don't Bypass My Heart" and "Wind Of Change", sensitive song work by Lynn Harrison and Brian Gladstone, with overarching guitar adornments by longtime fret-wielders Noah Zacharin and Tony Quarrington. Tony also killed with an original take on Robert Johnson's classic, the suburban nightmare blues, "Hell Hound On My Lawn". Noah brought a wide variety of classic and original tunes, including Lester Brown, Red Red Bird, Ten Tons of Road, and All Go Blind.

Above, the Kingston Village Outlaws, Noah, Brian and Tony, with singer Glen Hornblast standing by for moral support.

For the second round, two duets, one angelic (Clela Errington and Jocelyn Barth, above), and one outlaw (Fraser & Girard) parenthesized Meg Tennant, who seems to be able to go both ways. Clela offered harmonies to her left and right and Marianne Girard provided an emergency acoustic guitar for Meg's busted tuning peg disaster. By the grand finale (below) of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken", the answer to that eternal question was, more than obvious, manifest. A true communal experience with laughs, tears and lots of bright moments on a dark, dark Saturday night.

L. to R. Allan Fraser, Tony Quarrington, Marianne Girard, Meg Tennant, Clela Errington, Noah Zacharin, Brian Gladstone, Lynn Harrison and Joselyn Barth. More to come, by and by, at the 13th annual Winterfolk Festival

Michael Jerome Browne ~ True To The Blues

This Friday at 6:00 p.m., I'll be having Montreal's primary blues export, Michael Jerome Browne, on the program to tee up his album launch at the Rivoli
Sunday   January 25, 2015  at 8:00 PM
(334 Queen Street West
Toronto)

Three-time Juno-nominee and two-time CFMA Solo Artist of the Year, Montreal indie artist Michael Jerome Browne is Canada's living, breathing encyclopedia of the music of the Deep South -- and his new album, Sliding Delta, is a tribute to the artists who first ignited his passion for their sound.
He will be in the Orbit live, chatting, playing, singing and invoking the pleasures of spreading the blues vibe around the known universe and in particular, at this weekend's Toronto Blues Summit.
